There are two sales I look forward to every year with one of them being at Sephora. With my VIB Rouge card, every November I get 20% off everything in the store, that's right, you heard me. EVERYTHING!!! Most items in Sephora never go on sale with the exception of their own brand products so imagine my excitement when I go in to stock up on my beauty products!

This year, one of my purchases was this mascara set. Sephora makes beauty sets of their favourite products and sells them in boxes filled with sample sizes and a couple of full sized ones as well. This box consisted of ten mascaras, eight sample sizes and two full-sized products. Priced at $54 CAD, it's a really good deal and a great way to try on different products to see which ones you may like better.

I bought this set because prior to this, I had eyelash extensions done for almost a year but found them really hard to maintain on a regular basis so I decided to take them off. When I did, I found my eyes looked "naked" and had to find an alternative solution with mascaras again.

Here are the ones I tried from left to right:

The Estee Edit - A really good black mascara with two brushes, a large one and a smaller one for your lower lashes and inner and outer corners of your eyes. Good brushes, gives good length, separates the lashes well and gives fullness to your lashes with no clumps.

YSL babydoll - I found this mascara rather dry coming out of the tube and the wand is very flimsy (mine is already bent) The brush is small so you need quite a few coats, it's ok.I definitely didn't get the "babydoll" effect.

Urban Decay Perversion - This mascara has a really full brush, it comes out a little clumpy but a few coats gives some nice full long lashes. I'd use this one again.

Buxom - This one has a long, full brush and separates the lashes very nicely. Gives good length with fullness to my lashes and no clumps.

Smash box Photo finish lash primer - This is a primer to be used before applying mascara to allow for fuller, longer lashes. I'm not sure how much fuller or longer my lashes got. It's a great sample to try but I don't think a primer before mascara is really needed.

Tarte Tarteist - This was one of my least favourites (probably the worst in the box). It has a full brush but it's very clumpy. Too much product gets stuck on the brush and you need a separate eyelash brush to clean up the clumps off your lashes. The packaging is not great as well, it's got a weird opening and close method. I'm always not sure if I've done it right.

Bobbi Brown Smoky Eye - This mascara is ok. It has a smaller brush but too much product gets stuck on the brushes which makes applying quite difficult. Doesn't separate my lashes as well as the others and it doesn't give me much length or fullness either.

NARS Audacious Mascara- I'm not a big fan of this one either. The brush is rather sparse and only good if you have fuller lashes. I think it would separate fuller lashes nicely but I don't have full lashes so it was harder for me to apply this one. The mascara also comes out a little dry.

Benefit "They're Real" - I've used this one before and liked it. Doesn't give me as much length and fullness as the others but it goes on easy with no clumps and is an overall good everyday mascara.

Too Faced, Better than Sex - My daughter likes this one but I'm not so much of a fan as she is. The brush is fuller on the ends and skinnier in the middle and I find it harder to apply on my lashes. I didn't find it gave me much fullness and length either. Definitely needed a few coats for any results. I'm not sure they should be calling this mascara "better than sex"!

Overall, I was happy with this purchase and would definitely try more Sephora favourites boxed sets like this one. The mascaras that were winners for me were The Estee Edit, Buxom, Urban Decay Perversion and Benefit "They're Real!"

Do you have a favourite mascara?
