I love long weekends especially Victoria Day weekend or otherwise known as "May 2-4 weekend" in Toronto because my family and I along with friends do an annual food tour around the city to try new eats. You must know my love for food from all the food posts on Instagram! The more the merrier on this occasion because it means we have more mouths to share with and can potentially order more off the menus!

We didn't get the weather we hoped for and because of the wind and rain, this year we decided to do "bigger bites" but less stops. Our first stop was Honest Weight. This restaurant also has a small fish shop and serves up a wicked bowl of chowder and some really fresh seafood. Kushies and Malpecs are in season which also happens to be my favourites.

The rustic decor makes this place feel like home and a change from so many modern designed restaurants around now. The menu was written on the green signboards along the wall.

You can get some fresh fish to go after you eat too!

My usual pose when the food arrives. I'm lucky to have friends and family who "understand", lol!

To start : A dozen Kushies and Malpec oysters and Tuna Tataki

Chowder and Softshell crab for appetizers. The rustic bread is from Forno Cultura. I used every piece to soak up the soup and then made a stop to their bakery after to pick up another loaf to bring home. It was that good.

Mains: Okonomiyaki - seafood pancake with bonito flakes, Steamed clams and mussels, Fish cakes and more bread. And you guessed it, I soaked up the broth from the steamed clams and mussels with it. Definitely a carb overload day!

We also ordered their hand-crafted sodas: Black Cherry, Honeydew and Lime and Guava (which was my favourite)

Cute sign!
Overall a great place if you want a casual seafood lunch or dinner.

Our next stop was The Tempered Room for some baked goods.

Left to right - Chocolate croissant, Mini Cinnamon bun, Choco Citron tart, Banana Eclair and Raspberry pull apart bread. None really stood out for me, this place was ok.

Kids wanted ice cream despite the rain. Besides, what would a food tour be without an ice cream stop, right? I've been dying to try these ice cream rolls for a long time so we went to Arctic Bites.

I was in awe at how they made the ice cream rolls and imagined the staff that worked there must have really toned arms!

They had the cutest names for their flavours and of course we (or rather, I) had a hard time trying to narrow down which ones we wanted....

In the end we chose: Taro with a Twist, Takes Two to Mango, We're Mint to Be and Thai me Up. My favourite were the mango and Thai tea flavours. I would go back for Thai me Up, it had good strong flavours of Thai Ice Tea.

I think my love for food comes from growing up in Asia. I grew up with so many flavours living in multi-cultural Singapore. However, my love for food doesn't necessarily translate into my love for cooking although I have taken more of an interest in it over the years. My favourite foods have to be anything seafood, Italian, Japanese and Asian street food. I also have a terribly sweet tooth and dessert is a must no matter how stuffed I am. What's the saying? "There's always room for dessert!"

Before Roselle, we made a stop into Colette Grand cafe to see if they were making their DELICIOUS raspberry croissants again and sadly, they were not. Off we went to Roselle but we got there quite late so there was not much left. It's also a really small cafe and only four or so small tables. I picked up a couple of their homemade sea salt caramels and left quickly. (If you're claustrophbic you may not do very well in there!) Sorry, the caramels got into my mouth before i could take a picture but I'll definitely make my way back earlier next time to try some of their desserts and baked goods.

If you can believe, the kids were still hungry after the seafood, baked goods and ice cream so our last stop was Mi Mi Restaurant for some Vietnamese noodle soup. Again, sorry I forgot to take pictures. At this point, it was dark and still raining outside and with all the food in my belly I felt a nap coming on...... till my next food eats around the city!
If you have any recommendations for eats in Toronto or the GTA, I'd love to know!
Thanks for stopping by!
xoxo
